He Saw Through Me

By: Nancy G. Brundrett

Always building up walls has been my past time
Secret messages within each rhythm and rhyme
Walking through each day my heart overflows
Riding with the wind where ever it blows

Facing forward not turning back
From times and sufferings when peace I did lack
Sometimes I wear a colorful mask
It would always help me obtain my desired task

Can true love really ever be?
There are so many disappointments that I see
Living in my defensive world was a safe place
I always painted a perfect picture on my face

He saw through me with his crystal blue eyes
Deep inside where all my sorrow lies
Love isn’t blind I’ve heard it said
I’m like a book he picked up and read
He found the key and unlocked the door
Walking inside he offered me more
Could his love really set me free?
He saw through me

In this hidden haven I often abide
It’s my secret garden where I run and hide
How did he know? How could he feel?
How could he empathize with my sad ordeal?

Through all the presses of my past pain
My blood flows like fine wine within the vein
Watching and waiting for that special soul to walk by
To give me a reason to trust in love and try

Past all my defenses I was always building up
He offered me love and I drank from his cup
The warmth of a strong shoulder is so peaceful to me
He takes my hand and kisses it because he can see

He saw through me with his crystal blue eyes
Deep inside where all my sorrow lies
Love isn’t blind I’ve heard it said
I’m like a book he picked up and read
He found the key and unlocked the door
Walking inside he offered me more
Could his love really set me free?
He saw through me

Now I am on a journey past my disguise
Upon the wings of a dove my spirit flies
Longing for each new amorous embrace
There is a new, found freedom I now can trace

We seem to be sailing on an ocean of love
With God’s merciful eyes watching from above
There is a promise of comfort for a broken spirit
His love speaks to me and now I can hear it

He has given me a soft place to land
A strong mountaintop not sinking sand
So each day I whisper a prayer before I rise
Knowing our love story is written in his eyes

He saw through me with his crystal blue eyes
Deep inside where all my sorrow lies
Love isn’t blind I’ve heard it said
I’m like a book he picked up and read
He found the key and unlocked the door
Walking inside he offered me more
Could his love really set me free?
He saw through me
