Arrows and a Compass
A Delta and A long Time Gone

Below are some lyrics to David Crosby's more spiritual songs. I have always loved David Crosby. He seems to be emulating from his heart and soul. I met him once and he signed his first book for me. "Long Time Gone". You have no idea what this man and his wife went through to recover from a drugged up life. I suppose it can go with the territory, but it almost killed him. The Spirit within, the "Hero" within helped pull him out of this deadly life style. Now he has a brand new life and a new liver. He has found his long lost son from the 60's that was adopted too. That son grew up not knowing at all that David Crosby was his dad, but he could sing and play the piano with outstanding inherited skills. Crosby's band CPR features his son on piano and vocals.

I have always been drawn to Crosby ever since he was in the Bryds. I love the song "Every One Has Been Burned Before"...Later he hooked up with Crosby, Stills and Nash and Young. Those guys have some of the most heartful music together along with there signature perfect angelic harmonies. Everyone thinks my music songs like them. Crosby has influenced me the most. Michael Hedges was a very gifted and spiritual friend to him. He died a few years ago. You should look Michael Hedges up on the net. He was amazing. His songs and harmonies will let you know that he influenced Crosby.

Here are some lyrics to some of his songs.

ARROWS (Michael Hedges/David Crosby)

Arrows turned inward are good for the soul.
I have a thing about arrows and diamonds and coal.
Pressure turning carbon to jewels.
Slowly they aim at my iron mark,
flaming,healing arrows.
They beat at my heart, angels turning metal to tools.

I don't care what you think has got you down
You can turn it around,
I don't care what you think.
Turn it around, turn it around, turn it around.

The times that I knew I could never get through
That's when I grew up the most, and alone sounds so sad
But alone I found the best friend I had

I don't care what you think has got you down
You can turn it around, I don't care what you think.
Turn it around, turn it around, turn it around.

Arrows turned inward are good for the soul,
Piercing through every callus, they always get through
My target is a heart no-one fools.

COMPASS By: David Crosby

I have wasted ten years in a blind-fold,
Ten-fold more than I've invested now in sight.
I have traveled beveled mirrors in a fly crawl,
Losing the reflection of a fight.

But like a compass seeking north, (seeking north).
There lives in me a still, sure, spirit part.
Clouds of doubt are cut asunder (clouds of doubt).
By the lightning and the thunder
Shining from the compass of my heart (shining from my heart).

I have flown the frantic flight of the bat-wing
And only known the dark because of that
I have seized death's door-handle
Like a fish out of the water
Waiting for the mercy of the cat.

But like a compass seeking north, (seeking north).
There lives in me a still, sure, spirit part.
Clouds of doubt are cut asunder (clouds of doubt).
By the lightning and the thunder
Shining from the compass of my heart (shining from my heart).

DELTA Words and music by David Crosby

Waking
Stream of consciousness
On a sleeping
Street of dream
Thoughts
Like scattered leaves
Slowed in midfall
Into the streams

Chorus

Of fast
Running rivers
Of choice and chance
And time stops here
And it seems as if time
Stops here on the delta
While they dance
While they dance

I love the child
Who steers this riverboat
But lately he's crazy
For the deep
And the river seems dreamlike
In the daytime
And someone keeps thinking
In my sleep

Chorus

Of fast
Running rivers
Of choice and chance
And time stops here
And it seems as if time
Stops here on the delta
While they dance
While they dance . . . (repeated)

I guess you can say that one of my favorite songwriters is David Crosby. His life has been a long hard road.

LONG TIME GONE by David Crosby

It's been a long time coming
It's going to be a long time gone
And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long time
It's a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn

Turn any corner
Hear what the people say
You know that something is going on around here
It surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day

And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Such a long, long time
Before the dawn

Speak out, you got to speak out against the madness
You got to speak your mind
If you dare
Don't, no don't try to get yourself elected
If you do you had better cut your hair
And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long time
Such a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn
It's been a long time coming
It's going to be a long time gone
But you know, the darkest hour
Is always just before the dawn
And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long time
Such a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn
