Night Ride Home

Words by: Joni Mitchell

Once in a while
In a big blue moon
There comes a night like this
Like some surrealist
Invented this 4th of july
Night ride home

Hula girls
And caterpillar tractors in the sand
The ukulele man
The fireworks
This 4th of july
Night ride home

I love the man beside me
We love the open road
No phones till friday
Far from the overkill
Far from the overload
Back at the bar
The band tears down
But out here in the headlight beams
The silver powerlines
GleamOn this 4th of july
Night ride home

Round the curve
And a big dark horse
Red taillights on his hide
Is keeping right alongside
Rev for stride
4th of july
Night ride home

I love the man beside me
We love the open road
No phones till friday
Far from the undertow
Far from the overload
Once in awhile
In a big blue moon
There comes a night like this
Like some surrealist
Invented this 4th of july
Night ride home

*I was thinking about important songs with the words "4th of July" in them. Joni Mitchell is extraordinary to me. Of all my favorite bands and artists I would love to see perform, Joni Mitchell is the only one I have not seen live. I have seen the Who in 1971 do the whole rock opera "Tommy", Led Zepplin, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Crazy Horse, Grateful Dead, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Blues Image, Johhny Rivers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Arlo Guthrie, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Wings, Dan Fogelberg, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Santana, Peter Frampton, Mountain, Black Sabbath, Shawn Phillips, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely, Asleep at the Wheel, Michael Martin Murphey, Poco, Kenny Loggins and Jim Missina, Three Dog Night,
Emmy Lou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Shawn Mullins, Susan Gibson, Teri Hendrix, Katerine Dawn,
Bonnie Riatt, Johnny Bush, Augie Meyers, Jars of Clay, Jennifer Knapp, Bebo Norman, The Animals, Bonnie Delaney and Friends, BB King, Kenny Rogers, Roger Miller, George Strait, Loving Spoonful, Young Rascals, Jefferson Airplane, meet Ken Kesey, Moody Blues, Charley Pride, Mo Bandy (lol), Jimmy Vaughn, Sly and the Family Stone, Steppen Wolf, Steve Miller, Jethro Tull, Glen Campbell, James Taylor, Chicago, Dr. John, BJ Stevens, Beachboys, Willie Nelson, Todd Rundgren, Roger McGuinn, John Denver, Los Lonely Boys, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Iron Butterfly. (These are the ones I remember lol) They say if you can remember the 60's you were not there!

I sure got off the track... I just love retroflective music memories!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO ALL.

Blessings to you,

Nancy G
